What's different for LinkedIn Company Pages?
Three things, per LinkedIn's Pages video spec page:
- Shorter maximum. Page videos top out at 10 minutes; member posts get 15.
- Fewer formats. The Pages page says AVI, QuickTime and MOV files are no longer supported. If your editor exports .mov by default, re-export as MP4 before posting from a Page.
- One minimum length. Pages list 3 seconds; members get 3 seconds on desktop and 2 seconds in the app.
Everything else is the same: 5 GB, 75 KB minimum, 256×144 to 4096×2304, 1:2.4 to 2.4:1, 10 to 60 fps and 192 Kbps to 30 Mbps.
What is the best video size for LinkedIn?
LinkedIn doesn't name a recommended size; it publishes a range. Anything from a tall 1:2.4 to a wide 2.4:1, between 256×144 and 4096×2304 pixels, is inside it. In practice:
- 1920×1080 (16:9) for a video that will also live on YouTube, your site or a Product Hunt launch.
- 1080×1080 (1:1) or 1080×1350 (4:5) for a feed-first post. At the same width, a 4:5 frame is 2.2 times as tall as 16:9 (and 1:1 is 1.8 times), so it takes more of a phone screen.
- 1080×1920 (9:16) is inside the range too: 9:16 (0.56) is less tall than 1:2.4 (0.42).
Not sure what ratio a file is? Use the aspect ratio calculator.
Why won't my video upload to LinkedIn?
From LinkedIn's troubleshooting page and spec pages:
- It's stored only in iCloud. The mobile app can't upload a video that is only in iCloud; move it to the device first.
- The codec, not the extension. LinkedIn warns that a listed file type can still fail to process, and gives ProRes as the example. Export H.264 in an MP4.
- A MOV on a Company Page. Pages no longer accept MOV, AVI or QuickTime.
- It's outside a limit. Under 3 seconds, over 15 minutes (10 for Pages), above 30 Mbps, over 60 fps or outside 1:2.4 to 2.4:1.
One conflict to know: LinkedIn's general Media file types supported on LinkedIn page has a note that "the file size cannot exceed 100 MB", under a heading that covers all media. Both video pages say 5 GB, so we use 5 GB, but if a very large file fails, that note may be why.
Is LinkedIn's mobile limit 10 minutes?
Not according to LinkedIn. Many third-party guides say member videos are capped at 10 minutes on mobile. Both member pages we checked (Share videos and troubleshooting) list one 15-minute maximum, with no separate mobile maximum. The 10-minute figure LinkedIn does publish is for Company and Career Pages.
Exporting a launch video for LinkedIn
| Setting | Recommended export |
|---|---|
| Size | 1920×1080 (16:9), or 1080×1350 (4:5) for a feed-first cut |
| File | MP4, H.264 (works for members and Pages) |
| Frame rate | 30 fps (inside 10 to 60) |
| Bit rate | Under 30 Mbps |
| Length | 30 to 90 seconds; always under 10 minutes if a Page will post it |
| Captions | Burn them in, or upload a caption file from desktop |
Our recommendation, chosen to sit inside the LinkedIn limits above. The full guide: how to make a launch video.
A launch video has one job on LinkedIn: show the product working before the scroll moves on. In our study of 150 top Product Hunt launches, the median launch video ran 78 seconds and 75% were two minutes or shorter, comfortably inside both limits. If you'll post from the company Page and your founders' profiles, export one MP4 and it works for both.
