AI explainer video generators 13 compared on what they make

"AI explainer video" covers very different outputs: a talking avatar, template cartoons, stock footage, or designed motion graphics. Here's what each tool makes, what it accepts as input, and what it costs, from each tool's own site.

AI explainer video generators compared
AI explainer video generators fall into four groups. Avatar tools (Synthesia, HeyGen, Colossyan) put a presenter on screen. Animation suites (Vyond, Powtoon, Animaker) build cartoon or template animation. Text-to-video tools (Pictory, Fliki, invideo, Visla) assemble stock or generated scenes. Motion-graphics tools (Hera, nod) design animated scenes. Entry plans run about $9 to $25 a month. nod turns a product page link into a finished explainer or launch film for $49 a video.

How do you choose an AI explainer video generator?

How is pricing structured?

Almost every tool sells a monthly subscription that includes credits or minutes, so the cost of one finished video depends on how many generations and edits it takes. Synthesia, for example, charges 100 credits per minute of video beyond its included minutes. nod charges per finished video: $49 for one, $99 a month for three, $249 for ten, with no credits.

What should a good explainer include, whichever tool you use?

60 to 90 seconds, about 130 to 160 words per minute of script, and a structure of hook, problem, solution, how it works, proof and call to action. Make it readable with the sound off. The full breakdown is in the explainer video guide.

AI explainer video generator FAQ

What is the best AI explainer video generator?
It depends on the explainer. For a presenter talking to camera (training, onboarding, localisation), Synthesia, HeyGen and Colossyan are built for it. For animated characters, Vyond, Powtoon and Animaker. For quick videos from an article, Pictory and Fliki. For a software product explainer or launch film made from your product page, nod.
Which AI video generators can make a video from a URL?
Going by their own pages: HeyGen, Colossyan, Vyond, Pictory, Visla (webpage), Fliki (blog URL) and Synthesia (articles and blog posts only). Hera claims a website input on its launch page. nod is built around one input, your product page link. We have not tested each tool's URL handling.
How much does an AI explainer video generator cost?
Most charge a monthly subscription with credits or minutes: from about $9 to $25 a month for entry plans (invideo, Pictory, Synthesia, HeyGen annual) up to $58 or more for animation suites like Vyond. nod charges per finished video: $49, or $99 a month for three.
Are AI explainer videos as good as studio-made ones?
For many software explainers, close enough to be useful, at a fraction of the price: studios that publish prices mostly charge $2,400 to $5,000 for a 60-second explainer (see prices). Studios still win on fully custom illustration, character animation and brand films.
