Do #1 launches write different taglines?

Not much. The median #1 tagline was 49 characters against 49 for all top-three launches. The tagline seems to work as a filter, not a differentiator: it needs to be instantly clear, and then the product, the gallery and the launch video do the persuading. 86% of #1 launches in the same window had a video (full study).

How do you write a Product Hunt tagline?

    1. Name the job, not the category. "Turn any URL into a launch video" beats "AI video platform".
    2. Add who it's for if it isn't obvious. "…for teams shipping fast with AI".
    3. Stay near 50 characters. That's the median among winners and it reads in one glance.
    4. Skip hype words. Product Hunt asks for plain, clear taglines with no over-the-top language.
    5. Test it on someone who's never seen the product. If they can't say what it does, rewrite it.

    Product Hunt tagline FAQ

How long can a Product Hunt tagline be?
60 characters (Product Hunt). Top launches don't use all of it: across 150 daily top-3 launches from September and October 2026, the median tagline was 49 characters and 8 words.
What makes a good Product Hunt tagline?
Say what the product does, for whom, in plain words. In our data, 27% of top-3 taglines address the reader with "your", 22% start with a verb ("Turn…", "Build…", "See…"), and 35% name AI. Product Hunt's founder advises testing it on people who don't know the product.
Should a Product Hunt tagline mention AI?
Only if AI is the point. 35% of the 150 top launches we analysed name AI in the tagline, but most AI products describe the job instead ("Turn any URL into…") and let the topics carry the AI label.
What is the difference between the tagline and the description on Product Hunt?
The tagline (60 characters) is the one line shown on the leaderboard beside your name; the description (500 characters) appears on your product page. Write the tagline to be understood in a two-second scroll.
