84 launch videos worth studying, and what 150 top Product Hunt launches tell us about length and timing.

We studied the 150 daily top-3 Product Hunt launches from September 12 to October 31, 2026. 81.3% had a launch video, rising to 86% of #1 products. The median video ran 78 seconds on YouTube, 75% were two minutes or shorter, and 70.5% went up in the week before launch.

What the best launch videos have in common

They're short. Most land between 30 and 90 seconds. The long tail over two minutes is mostly walkthroughs and demos, not launch films.
They open on the idea, not the logo. The first few seconds decide whether anyone keeps watching.
They show the real product. Designed UI moments, not stock footage.
They read with the sound off. Short on-screen lines carry the story in a muted feed.
They're made for launch day. 70.5% were uploaded in the final week.

Method

We took every daily top-3 Product Hunt launch from September 12 to October 31, 2026 (150 launches) using Product Hunt API data mirrored by hunted.space, and checked three ranks against producthunt.com. A launch counts as having a video when its Product Hunt gallery contains one (interactive demos excluded). Durations come from each video's YouTube page or Loom/Vimeo metadata; three private videos have no duration. Galleries reflect November 2, 2026. The curated set is hand-picked and leans toward well-known companies. The data is free to use under CC BY 4.0 with credit to nod (jusnod.com): download the CSV.

Questions

How long should a product launch video be?

In our sample of 150 top Product Hunt launches, the median launch video ran 78 seconds on YouTube and 75% were two minutes or shorter. Aim for 45 to 90 seconds: long enough to show the product working, short enough that people finish it.

Do top Product Hunt launches have a video?

Most do. 81.3% of the daily top-3 launches from September 12 to October 31, 2026 had a launch video, and 86% of the #1 products did. Product Hunt itself reports about 53% of Product of the Day winners since 2021 had a video, so the share has grown.

When should I upload my launch video?

In the week before launch. The median video in our sample went up 3 days before launch day, and 70.5% were uploaded 0 to 7 days before. Product Hunt only accepts YouTube links, so upload early enough to test the link.
